It was the Capital quite recently
...until the government moved to Astana - which was not really appreciated by most of the people because Almaty is a nice city in a marvellous surroundings. But Almaty will survive this loss like Rio de Janeiro did when the government moved to Brasilia....

Nice! Almaty is a great place, no matter if it is the capital or it is not !
and like sao paulo survived when it moved to rio and like rio survived when it moved to sao paulo and, baaaaaaack in time, like salvador survived when it moved to rio! but GOSH let's just hope Astana is not as boring as Brasilia...
