Welcome Dear Friends and Fellow Travellers

by lotharlerch - last update: Aug 18, 2009

Near Juodkrante, Lithuania
There are so many nice and interesting pages on VT and I am sure I never can visit them all. I got nice ideas and I made very nice friends that way.
Shir Dor, Registan, Samarkand
Travelling is among the nicest things in my life and I would like to travel much more - the limit is the time available for travelling, much more than the money because in most of the world it is possible to live cheaper than in my home country and most of its neighbours...
Some VTers even think I would not need to travel so much living in such a great place...
Telfs (near Innsbruck), where I live
Theatre in Chernivtsy, Bucovina, Ukraine
Since I am rather lazy in building pages and knowing that there exist fine pages covering almost all places visited by considerable numbers of people I decided only to contribute own pages on less known destinations. I think it is complete nonsense to add an average London, Florence or New York page to the many existing excellent ones. Therefore I limit myself to "off the beaten path" destinations which I nevertheless find fascinating in many ways (maybe often because they are off the beaten path) and I try this way to share my personal impressions with those few members interested in these places.
But you can happen to find me even on worlds most beaten tracks ....
guess where this is...
..not far from Hitler's birthplace
I do not need to travel just for that but it is more than often offered on the way..... I can not help, it WAS by far my most popular page - more than 23000 visitors. I strictly limited myself to clearly travel related contents but The Censor overseas sees that differently, even contents like interactive road maps and contributions about chocolates were deleted. To prevent further annoyances I removed the remaining contents myself . Those who did the more than 23.000 visits to this page and never made any negative comment about it are my wittnesses.

After having fitted my most already by far most successful page to the needs of "political correctness" I got under the last years an other 62000 visits and in total 8000 ratings...
I was also lazy to post pictures, mainly because I had them almost exclusively as slides and first to produce a paper picture to scan it afterwards seems me too much effort just to compete with the many good pics which are available even of less known destinations both on the web and from other sources. But this changed a bit as you maybe noticed because since 29 November 2002 I have a digital camera. And you see, it has changed.

I like the interaction with other VT members and I am also happy to answer questions about the places I visited. And most of my VT friends know that I like very much to send and to receive e-mails. With some of you I had and have really lively and interesting discussions which are among the nicest and most rewarding I got out of VT. And I met already some of my VT friends (20 out of 89) personally, here at home in Austria and in Slovenia, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany and Ukraine. And that was always very nice and interesting, too, and I hope to meet also all my other VT friends some day!

And one more thing: I often get e-mails asking me for info and if I am able to give a more or less relevant and useful answer I am happy to do so. But I would greatly appreciate to know a bit more about you from your VT page, even if you have no contribution about any destination on it. But you are not an anonymous, you have a name and a place where you are living at least, so please let me know at least that - you know it from me, too.

Hi Lothar, it's been a long time :) I came back from Finland (Lemmenjoen kansallispuisto) recently but haven't built the page yet. I have hundreds of pictures and no time to select them :(

ciao Lothar! Thinking of you as I opened a white wine bought long ago. Thought it was Austrian all this time...but no, it's a Johannisberg "G" Rheingau Riesling Kabinett, very ripe fruit! Good passport pic you have there!
