A CRUISE ON THE ADELAIDE RIVER..

While in Darwin I took this cruise on the Adelaide river and was a "croc jumping " cruise where crocs are fed and jump out of the water to grab meat that is extended on poles..This is really an "UP CLOSE" look at crocodiles and allows for some great photo opportunities of these huge reptiles..Sometimes I must cofess to being a bit nervous with the boat being constructed only of Aluminium and the noise that various large crocodiles made when crashing into the side of the boat..."We need a bigger boat" came to mind..The boat though is large ..and there is usually plenty of room to get your camera focused on a few of these really large estuarine crocodiles...locals call them "salties"..The ultimate killing machine withourt a doubt...

ADELAIDE RIVER..CROCO JUMPING CRUISE..

I was quite surprised at just how big these crocodiles were ..most were at least four or five meters long..they were huge..as some were just laying on the banks of the river.,another highlight for me was the large majestic Sea Eagles swooping down on meat thrown in the air by staff off the boat..and the birds scooping it out of the air with their large tallons...such a great sight of these beautiful birds of prey

ADELAIDE RIVER..CROC JUMPING CRUISE

Adelaide River played a large part in the military defense of northern Australia and played an important role after the bombing of Darwin city in February 1942 this became the headquarters of Australian and American Forces when they were relocated here..along with supply depots ammunition storage areas with airfields and a large camp hospital.
This is also a place many people stop when visiting Litchfield National park close by..when visiting Litchfield also beware of the croc situation there..
These prehistoric reptiles are the ultimate "killing machine"...as they have evolved over such a long period of time, they have really perfected their existance..
