COWRA...THE GOLDEN GRASS

COWRA...
In western New South Wales.. the district produces mainly fat lambs, wool, wheat, cattle ,and a variety of vegetables.. ..and has a rich colonial history but that is overshadowed by the daring jailbreak by Japanese prisoners from their internment camp in 1944 where four Australian guards were killed and 247 prisoners lost their lives...as this was the site of not only the prison site for Japanese but European prisoners of war as well.... .There is now a marvellous Japanese gardens here that is just a wonderful peaceful place to wander and look at all the flowers and enjoy the gardens themselves .Designed by Ken Nakajima and are along the lines of the Imperial Japanese Gardens in Kyoto and are well worth seeing.......they are always so well kept..and is a Japanese war memorial site...The Cowra Museum is a military, railway and rural experience withover 8000 exhibits including a large operating model railway.there is a collection of military vehicles here as well .Many festivals are held in Cowra the largest being September is the Agricultural show and in October is the Japan Cowra horse Racing Cup..and the "Sakura" (cherry blossom) "Matsuri" festival.which has Japanese tea ceremonies..kite flying ..calligraphy and martial arts...Cowra has the best camping area that I have been in for a long time and if you are going to camp its a winner

COWRA...N.S.W. JAPANESE MEMORIAL GARDENS.

NOTHING LIKE THE PEACEFUL SOUND OF RUNNING WATER...

COWRA...N.S.W.JAPANESE MEMORIAL GARDENS..

Looks like an interesting community here, with a few pieces of preserved history.

I'd agree, Cowra is an interesting place and worth visiting, Denny. Enjoyed your page which brought back memories of the military and railway museum - what a collection!
