Situated on the North side of the city and bridge this suburb of the northern part of Sydney is in such a great location. Mosman definately is for the affluent, as housing and apartment prices here definately reflect the wealth that it costs to live in this suburb.Mosman due to its location has always been a very affluent part of sydney.
Mosman is a very attractive suburb with its leafy tree lined streets and avenues there are some really attractive old colonial buildings noted for their wrought iron "lacework" trimmed verandahas and painted in the most lovely of Federation colours.
Being right on Mosman Bay, this is a really easy suburb to reach by public transport. The ferry can be caught from Circular Quay and the ferry does this pleasant trip to Mosman Wharf around every 30 minutes in "peak" hours , and then returning to the city. Outside peak hour times they are still quite frequent. The busses also have a frequent timetable to Mosman from either the City, North Sydney or St. Leonards railway station. All Northern Beaches busses also pass Mosman and this enables access with many choices of transport. This enables many choices to reach Mosman also at other times they are also frequent . (get off at Spit Junction)
Mosman is quite famous for its rowing club that has been a very strong club for many years featuring in local competitions and even a few champions have represented Australia from this little club. The club itself is really fabulous for an "outdoor meal and drinks". Sailing here is another very popular pastime and what a wonderful harbour setting it is to go sailing. Sunset sailing is a big attraction in the summer months.
An extremely frequented place of course is "Balmoral Beach" located at the "Spit" harbour side of Mosman. This is a very clean harbour beach popular with "mums and kids" nearby there is also a protected pool for swimmers. Mosman's main Street sees a local "upmarket" shopping centre along with many fine restaurants and coffee shops that can be enjoyed.
Parking can be very hard to find...
Many years ago a network of city trams stopped by Mosman and Balmoral Beach and today even the old tram waiting sheds are still used for local transport. They definately added a real charm wherever they were.
Many people visit Mosman when going to Taronga Park Zoo that is a wonderful local attraction...This beautifully located Zoo right on the headland overlooking Sydney Harbour must be blessed with one of the best zoo locations in the world.
Also to be found in Mosman is "Nutcote" this being the former Home of May Gibb. the artist, author and illustrater of the famous childrens books "Snugglepot and Cuddlepie"..There would hardly be an Australian child that didn't grow up having these stories read to them at bedtime. Based on Australian mythical "bush babies" these incredibly colourful and enchanting stories have become an Australian storybooks icon.
- Pros:HOME TO THE LUCKY MINORITY.
- Cons:VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND CAR PARKING..
- In a nutshell:MORE THAN JUST SAND , VIEWS AND WEALTH
