I knew of the altitude and what to expect as I previously had been warned ,but I still found it extremely hard for me to get acclimatised to the very high altitudes and took quite a few days to feel reasonably comfortable..I didnt want to get altitude sickness as I knew how dangerous it was and so I was literally dragging my pack around when I first arrived.
I must say it was always so good when I got back down to sea level for then could at least breathe with ease The next five months would constantly be up and down from sea level to high altitude while travelling through all of South America and so, to do what I wanted to do ,and see what I wanted to see.it seemed to be a case of never getting used to the situation for very long...it was just so worth it...from here it was all downhill.

This main square here in Bogota is really large and impressive and was used as a prominent location in the movie "The Carpetbaggers".
