A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL FELLOW VT'ERS FOR 2009

NEW YEARS EVE FIREWORKS CELEBRATIONS SYDNEY 2008
Well..I have just arrived back home in Sydney after a nearly five month journey through South East Asia..and must confess it was nothing short of marvellous and I would have to say the most remarkable country that I visited was Myanmar (Burma).I had heard only good reports from local travellers and decided that I would like to visit a place that has always held a certain fascination for me...Myanmar the land of countless pagodas...so much so that I would like to return when I can...my only dissapointment was not being able to get to see Angkor Wat in Cambodia. due to military unrest over the Unesco world heritage sight at Preah Vihear in Cambodia..but I guess that is just the reason I need to return to carry on my journey in S.E.Asia....I must also appologise to many people for not being in closer contact during this period of time..

. PHOTOS ON THESE PAGES ARE MY OWN .. DO NOT REMOVE THEM WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

I really love this amazing country Australia. a great sense of freedom and open space.. I like to do long road trips driving to different states whenever I can as there is always just so much to see and photograph.I am now doing what I can to furnish as much information with photographs as I can to these pages ...it is my pleasure if any fellow traveller gets a helpful bit of info from any item that I lodge..
Having an interest in military history I always take the chance to visit military museums when possible..I also like really different train journeys... I travel as much with my car as possible as independance is the key.

Sydney.. Entrance to China Town at Dixon Street..

SYDNEY...China Town..

Sydney...China town a popular place for Sydneysiders to eat ...such an abundance of different restaurants here.. There is a big population of Chinese in Australia..They have played a prominent part in our history..some are decendants from early immigrants that came in the goldrush of the 1850's. most have just decided to call Aussie home...there is hardly a suburb or town in the country that wouldn't have a good Chinese restaurant ...certainly a big part of Aussie way of life..there is a big Chinatown in Sydney and it is situated right by Darling Harbour..easy to get to.*
Sydney ...Central Railway station ...

SYDNEY...Central Railway Station..

The Central Railway station is easily located and the traveller is able to catch city and suburban trains from here...and all trains that link up with the National Railway System...This is a great place for people watching as it is always so crowded...The old saying was I will meet you at Central "under the clock".
A couple of The worlds greatest Train journeys can be had from here..and people come from near and far for the experience....The "Indian Pacific" that crosses the country from Sydney to Perth in Western Australia. (east to west)..(see my Adelaide page). The "Indian Pacific Train"gets its name from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean...also.. one can catch this train to Adelaide and link up with the great "Ghan" train journey from Adelaide to Darwin (south to north) in the Northern Territory.(see my Alice Springs and Darwin pages).Take your car on the train and drive back...but it's a long drive...and remember never drive any distance in Australia without WATER...*
Sydney's Monorail and Centrepoint Tower..

SYDNEY..The old and the new...

The Monorail is a quick way to go around the centre of the city...you get a birds eye view and is great to beat the crowds especially in the rain...here it is pulling into Darling Harbour..a very popular precinct to relax ...sit in the sun...have a coffee or a meal at one of the many restaurants...or maybe some shopping......there are many attractions here at Darling Harbour and well worth a visit..The Chinese gardens here is especially a peaceful place to visit.....and is right within walking distance by Chinatown...(see my tips)5cg*
Parramatta Park ..Tudor Gatehouse and entrance..

Parramatta...

The Entrance to Parramatta park with Gatekeepers Residence...such a wonderful big park right in the centre of Parramatta...The Park contains two of Australias oldest buildings ..The Dairy Precinct and the old Government House...it was here that Governor Phillip established a major farm and Dairy that became the Government Domain from1788 until 1858...this played a large part in supplying the "city" with essentials..Parramatta is a very Historical place in Australias history...there are other things also to be seen...ie: the Tudor Gatehouse and Entrance..(see my photo)..There is a monument to the Boer War..or just walk by the river...yes..this is a great place to be when many of the festivals are on and my favourite day here is "Australia day" The 26th of January..Aussies big celebration day...the best day to be anywhwhere in OZ...A special treat was when we took our children to watch the setting up and lifting off at sunrise of many colourful hot air balloons.so different ,with the sounds of all the burners filling the balloons and then watching them slowly rise and lift off the ground...and then enjoy the free breakfast ...bacon and eggs and "sausage sizzle"put on by the local council...also the day has so many other activities.many different music venues and displays of Vintage Motor Vehicles and Motor cycles...just so much for kids..many exhibits and demonstrations to see by the Rescue services, the Military ,The Police, The Fire Service, and Rescue Service,.one year there even was a rodeo...yes...there's a lot to see in Parramatta...(see my Parramatta page and many tips)*
My dog Ammo as a puppy...

Sydney...My dog Ammo...a great sight..

I guess it is really hard to speak of all the sights I love in this city...and one of the best of course for ME is my dog...AMMO...a cross Border Collie/Kelpie..such a great loyal dog...I mean you can't help but just love this dog to bitz....I only hope I'm as good as he thinks I am...He wags his tail every time he sees me ..so he must think I'm pretty good...*
SYDNEY...A HAPPY "BUSKER"

SYDNEY... MUSIC EVERYWHERE..

There are many "buskers" and musicians to be seen around the city..I took this shot of this really happy "busker" in the railway tunnel at Central Railway Station..he was good.....There seems to be music everywhere you go in Sydney.*
BONDI BEACH A VERY POPULAR SYDNEY ICON

ENJOY ONE OF SYDNEYS FAMOUS BEACHES..NTH AND STH..

Sydney has some of the most pristine beaches in the world and when visiting this city there are so many beaches to choose from with many on the South side of the city and over a dozen on the north side..most are accessable by public transport ..the most popular being Bondi and Coogee and Tamarama on the south side and Manly ,Freshwater,Collaroy,Newport and Palm Beach on the north side..even if you are not a beach person there are nice areas to visit with lots of little coffee shops and restaurants locally..*

The Trans-Mongolian is a fantastic train journey! I travelled it both ways :) There are some photos of the Russian border town Naushki on my pages which might interest you in case you go through there during daylight.
