  • This rather innocuous bit of road is Croy Brae, otherwise known as Electric Brae. Now to me, this is just a stretch of road on the coast road south of Ayr that I frequently pass on my way home if its a nice day.

To tourists, its some miracle optical illusion. Hence they have a tendancy to stop bang in the middle of the road in order to test the theory. Apparently you are supposed to think you are going up hill when in fact you are really going downhill. So people stop with their handbreak off and see if they start rolling "uphill".

oh well. at least you don't actually have to pay to try it out I suppose!!

At Least Do This: There is a layby there, use it rather than blocking the road for motorists who are actually trying to get somewhere! Can you tell this annoys me?? Instead of using your car to test the theory you could also try pouring some liquid on the road and see whether it runs "up" the hill. I actually tried this recently and just ended up with a puddle of water that was going NOWHERE!
Alternative: Enjoy a nice drive along the coast

Nice photos but it would be nice if you could say where Ayr is located in the UK. Or did I miss somewhere? Good day.
