Edinburgh is Scotlands capital city and apparently has more history per square metre than any other comparable city in the world! Its also the 6th most important financial capital in Europe.
The name Edinburgh has at least two possible origins. One is that is could stem from the old Brithonic "Eiden burgh" which means "fortress on a hill slope". The other is that it could have been named after an Anglo Saxon king, Edwin, who built a fort where Edinburgh Castle now stands. Either way, its a stunning city which is well worth a visit. |

| | My Second Home I lived in Edinburgh for 3 years when I was studying so know it pretty well and really grew to love it! Its a relatively small city and the centre is very compact and easy enough to walk around between most of the main attractions. The centre is divided into two parts - The medieval Old town in the south and the Georgian New Town to the north.

| | There is a great nightlife with over 800 pubs throughout the city. There is plenty history there and its fairly unspoilt by large commercial buidings and motorways through the city etc. The bus system is excellent so its easy to get to other areas of the city. One thing that I love about Edinburgh is that as you approach it along the M8 motorway or on the by-pass the first thing that you see is the Castle on the horizon and Arthurs Seat behind it. |
