I had heard of the Leo Burdock Fish & chip shop that is located near Christ Church Cathedral but I noticed another small branch in the Epicurian food hall not far from O'Connell St & handier for where I was staying on the north side of the Liffey. The food was lovely, not too expensive and there is seating in the food hall
Favorite Dish: I had scampi [if you want chips with it you have to ask for them seperately] and also the seafood chowder which was absolutely delicious!! If all their food is that good I can see why its so popular!!
Address: Epicurian food hall, Henry Street
Comparison: less expensive than average

I already mentioned the Leo Burdocks branch above but this place as a whole deserves its own tip. Its a bit like a shopping centre food court - seating area in the middle surrounded by a variety of food outlets - but not as tacky. You can find fish & chips, Italian, French, Asian, Turkish, American [bagels] cuisine here and it allows you to either choose one place or perhaps choose different cuisines from your companions while still being able to sit together. Most of the outlets do have seating areas of their own or you can sit in the middle.
On my most recent visit there we chose the Italian option and had dinner at Mama Mias which had a small buffet for less than €10 [price depended on size of plate but the biggest was €9.50]
Favorite Dish: We had the buffet at Mama Mias. Its not got a huge variety [3 pastas + salad and other extras] and you can just fill your plate once, but the food was lovely and we felt we really got our moneys worth.
There was a chicken and bacon pasta in a garlicky sauce that was just delicious, as well as melt in your mouth chicken breasts in a tomato sauce :)
Yum!

A pub and carvery restaurant in a beautiful old building not far from Temple Bar and Grafton Street which had been recommended to us prior to my most recent visit. They have a menu but you basically go up to the carvery counter and ask for what you want there. Pay for your meal [and drink] there and then find a table. Its a bit of a maze of a place but has that cosy pub feel and plenty of seating. We ventured upstairs, next to a second bar.
The meals were fairly reasonably priced from what we had seen [around €10-12 for most of the main dishes] around the city but be warned - the drinks aren't as cheap!
Favorite Dish: Choose from a wide variety of dishes - the usual carvery meats as well as some stews etc. Then pick any sauces, vegetables and potato accompaniements.
I decided on the Irish Stew and was certainly not disappointed. I got a huge helping, before adding all my potatoes and veg!, of thick delicious stew that melted in the mouth. My friend was equally happy with her Irish beef and Guinness Stew. Unfortunately neither of us had any room left to sample the desserts! :(

A fish and chip restaurant which seems to be a cross between old world restaurant and fast food. The counter has that fast food burger joint feel but when you go upstairs to the seating area there is a much nicer ambience. Its been around since around 1913 so that has to say something for the quality of the food, for it to have lasted so long.
We went to their restaurant on O'Connell Street and had a lovely satisfying and relatively cheap meal there. They have a huge range of fish to choose from and apparently its all bought fresh from the docks and offers can change depending on the catches etc They use peanut oil to fry in which is a little bit healthier.
Favorite Dish: I went for the lemon sole and chips which was only €6.20. I don't generally eat battered fish very often, as I find a lot of batter is a bit soggy and I end up leaving it, but this was really crisp and nice and I ate every last morsel!! The big chunky chips were lovely too. I also ordered a side dish of onion rings and they were huge, definitely enough to share.
