Getting TO/AROUND: My first day in the city was spent walking for what seemed like miles so I decided to take a rest the second day and go on the open top bus tour - the BUS TURISTIC. It was €18 for one day and like in most cities it has the "hop on hop off" and multiple routes. I thought it was a great way of getting around to the tourist sights that are a little further away from the main area of Las Ramblas & the Barri Gotic and Port areas. Places like Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia, Nou Camp stadium etc would need public transport to reach them anyway. Also Montjuic which has a lot of museums and sights on its slopes but would require a bit of a climb or a liking for cable cars to reach them!! Of course the buses get busy, particularly around places like Sagrada Familia where there was quite a queue to get back on the bus. I think that was the only place I didn't get on the first bus that came though. The frequency of the buses increases in high season and I certainly never had to wait long for one to turn up. As well as a route map you also get a discount booklet for many of the attractions along the 3 routes

Getting TO/AROUND: For me, the easiest way to reach Barcelona was to fly from my local airport here in Scotland, to Girona which is around an hour from Barcelona. Its a small airport and the sort I like because there is no chance of getting lost! The low cost airline Ryanair fly out of there to various European destinations.

In order to get into the Barcelona itself you can take a shuttle bus directly to the Estacio del Nord bus station. There is a ticket booth on the main concourse at arrivals, right next to the car hire places.
