Although the nation was first founded back in the 800. You can sense there is a strong Catalan identity here and it means a lot to people. |
The city of Barcelona has undergone some regeneration thanks to hosting the 1992 Olympic Games, particulalry in the port areas where it was previously pretty run down and seedy. Aside from that there are plenty of things that make Barcelona a worthwhile place to visit. It has a uniqueness about it with all the modernist architecture [particularly all of the Antoni Gaudi buildings], the only cathedral in the world that is still under construction, beautiful buildings, plenty culture, Las Ramblas and the narrow back streets of the Barri Gotic, El Raval and Barceloneta.
