Paradise discovered

August 2008 and for a few days I will be in paradise, Bali, a land of dreams, adventure, verdant fields and exotic foods and friendly people.....well that's the image save the odd bomb or two.

I shall be travelling to Bali late August with a view to looking at purchasing a villa to spend more time in the sun and the hope that the reality surpasses the dream.

To this end, my journey and observations will form the basis of my feedback and report. Photos, tips reports and stories coming soon to this page

Ubud, the artistic and cultural centre of bali some exception views over rice paddies, verdant and lush in appearance, craved out of hillsides and maintained by continuious flowing water fed by springs and hilltop streams.

Known for its paintings of local scenes, woven clothe, craved wooden figures all highly decorative and coulourful, the region is a travellers palette just waiting for the photographic canvas and portfolio of life to be captured by the scores of visitors and tourists.

Sanur compaired to kuta is a more relaxed and senior part of Bali. Much better for couples, families and the young at heart. A good selection of beaches, shops, restuaurants and other facilties without the bang bang throbbing iof music until the early hours.

Its safe to walk at night with many large hotels, and medium size and star ratings to offer good alteratives to accommodation along with private villas and local family stays to choose from.

Transport is easy, buses, taxi or the occasional motorcycle ride are all available.

Boats are readily avaailble from the beach to visit the reef and seas at all times from early morniong to late afternoon
Parties are commonplace, watch out for signs of moon parties and other activities dependant on the time of year,

People are friendly and you can still avoid tourists if you wish like me to enjoy local friendly service in the lessor known locations and regions.

Hire a cab for a day at around $50 US max, its better than driving your self and visit many places on the island to enjoy relaxed sight-seeing and purchases

The Lotus garden, water lily restaurant in Ubud offers good food at a reasonable cost with views across ponds filled with lotus plants.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:friendly, romantic, relaxed
  • Cons:don't know or cannot think, oh yes, watch out for the moped drivers.
  • In a nutshell:Heaven on earth...almost
