A history of peace and democracy with help from the discovery of diamonds have made this to be one of Africa's most prosperous nations. Often touted as only for the wealthy and inaccessible for the low budget traveller (often by those with no practical experience) Botswana can be a challenge to those not so well off but not an impossibility. Amazing experiences of the true African bush without the imposing throngs of safari vehicles can be had in places like Moremi, the Kalahari, Chobe and of course the famous Okavango Delta. Botswana's traditional history and recent prosperity has made a mix of the old and the new. A striking example of this is in Maun, where traditional homes are in the immediate vicinity of multi-story office blocks and fast food outlets. |
