The Riviera Maya, in the Yucatan, turned out to be even better than expected. The weather was great and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The people were very warm and friendly. It was very easy to go with the flow and forget all the stress and gloomy feelings that we left behind back home.
Beside the Kukulkan Pyramid, one of the new wonders of the world, there are numerous Mayan archeological sites that are a must see in the Yucatan.
Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba are a few hours away, by Bus (see my tips). I couldn’t find any museums and the best way to get information, stories and legends is to speak with the Mayas, especially the older ones. All of them showed great pride in their cultural heritage as well in their language.
It’s almost impossible not to relax and feel a sense of happiness when you look at the Caribe Sea from Playa Maroma. This long beach, with soft white sand and turquoise green sea is perfect to recover from a long day visiting the archeological sites, or just to rest from all the fuss and stress we have to face most of the year.

i have been to playa del carmen a couple of times before and that is sure a nice place.
It has been a long time since we were here, so thank you for the tour and the great comments and pictures.

Great tips and photos. I still remember the very steep stairs of the Kukulkan Pyramid. It was a little scary going down.
