There are lots of beautiful medieval fountains in Bern (over 100). Even though most of hem don't have the original statues, it's still a sight to be seen the colours and statutes.
And also, at least for a Portuguese, the fact that they are standing in the middle of the street.
Bern Cathedral is Switzerland's largest ecclesiastical building. Construction works began in 1421 and were only finished in 1893.
The depiction of the Last Judgement, in the Portal of the cathedral is a must see. Truly amazing work. Some of the vitrals are also breathtaking.
The views from the church tower are also very impressive, going all the way to the Bernaise Alps.
The French church was built in the period from 1270 to 1285 and it's nowadays the oldest church in Bern.
The wooden pulpit and the arches are very beautiful. The whole interior, despite being very simple takes us back in time.
The Einstein House is in the centre of the Old City, on the second floor of Kramgasse 49, near the Clock Tower.
It's a Flat where Einstein lived for a couple of years, and there's not much of a great deal to see.
A place for the fans of the Master, where you can find some pictures, copies of documents and some of his writings.
The Museum of Fine Arts or Kunstmuseum is the oldest art museum in Switzerland with a permanent collection, and houses some great masterpieces, and it's well worth a visit.
Works from Picasso, Paul Klee, Ferdinand Hodler, Meret Oppenheim, as well as the most important group of works by Albert Anker.
We can also appreciate works from Manet, Cézanne, Monet, Renoir, van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec.
All and all, several hours well spent.
The Town Hall was built between 1406 and 1416.
It's a discrete and sober building, on a small square.
Behind the Parliament building, we can find a large balcony with great views. This is the greener part of Bern, and on a clear day we can clearly see the peaks of the Alps in the horizon.
Just a stroll around the parks, some even equipped with relaxing chairs, is a must see, to enjoy the quietness and the peaceful environment.
The Parliament building is probably the most impressive construction in Bern.
But the building itself is magnified by the beautiful square (inaugurated in 2004) in front of it.
Both during the day and the night it's very pleasant to spend some time admiring the square and the parliament house.
Coming from the hotel IBIS in Bern Expo, the way to the old town provides some the best views of Bern and the river.
It can be a difficult walk, since it's always going up. But it's well worth the effort.
To reach this viewing point, coming from the old town, just cross the bridge near the bear pit an the Information centre, turn left and go up.
The Clock tower was one of the first city gates of Bern. The astronomical calendar, gorgeous, is dated from the 15 Th century.
Located in the centre of the old town, it' s a sight that we go back to over and over again. And every time we stop and stare at its beauty.
