Macao or sometimes known as Macau is one of the two administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. Macao is located to the west of Pearl River Delta. It is bordering Guangdong Province to the north and facing the South China Sea to the south. Macao is a former Portuguese colony and handed over to the People's Republic of China in 1999. The Ruins of St. Paul is one of its most famous landmarks. The population of Macao is predominantly Chinese.
The temple of Goddess of Mercy is also known as Kun Iam Tong Temple. The temple is located at Avenida do Coronel Mesquita in Macau.
The first treaty of trade and friendship between the United States of America and China was signed at this granite table in 1844. The table is located at the premises of Kun Iam Tong Temple.

Ho and Pang, interesting little page about Macao here. Especially the accomodation tips are helpful.
seems like a small country / state / territory or its just that you were not able to explore its wild areas. i liked the tips, but there is no shopping tip :-)
A special place with a mix of Chinese and Portuguese architecture! I have been surprised to find Pelota basca as it is neither Chinese nor Portuguese!
I'm sure I would enjoy exploring the temples & the ruins of the Cathedral
I think Macau was the last Portuguese colony, so when it was handed over to China in 1999 that was the end of the Portuguese overseas empire -- after nearly six centuries! Does anyone still speak Portuguese in Macau, or does everyone speak Chinese?
I enjoyed seeing your atmospheric photos of the buildings, especially Saint Paul, and an evening watching Jai Alai sounds like fun!
Those cathedral ruins stand out in the landscape like a desolate lost era, which it is. YOu did a great job of pictures and comments. NO gambling?
I am glad Saint Paul, Kun Iam Tong Temple, and Leal Senado are going to be preserved and protected for future generations to enjoy! As always I enjoy your wonderful tips!
Lots of interesting info on Macao, esp. the Temple
Nice page! Thanks for taking us on a virtual tour with great photos!
