Take a drive around Lake Tahoe. South Lake Tahoe and Stateline are fun with all the tourists and casinos, but it's certainly not all there is to Tahoe. Far from it. Discover the quieter east and west sides of the lake, and the smaller communities of Incline Village and Tahoe City towards the north side. And there are many hikes one can take to find hidden treasures (i.e. Marlette Lake off the east shore). Take a day and explore -- you won't regret it!

During the summer, you must go hiking/biking/mountain biking. There are miles & miles of bike paths and trails to enjoy, either along the shoreline/roads, or up into the surrounding mountains. Go hike/bike around Fallen Leaf Lake (part of The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston was filmed there), or hike above Emerald Bay. A full-day strenuous hike is to go to the top of Mt. Tallac, or plan a day or two out into Desolation Wilderness. Or go for a more casual hike/mt. bike trip to Marlette Lake on the east shore. Remember the high elevation will put more strain on your body than normal, so take that into consideration when contemplating a tough hike/ride. Bicycles are easy to rent for the day, there are quite a few places in South Lake Tahoe which offer this service. (This photo's from above Emerald Bay)

If you're there for the Fourth of July, the casinos put on a spectacular fireworks show at the south shore. With some friends, pick any spot along the shoreline in South Lake Tahoe, bundle up with a coat, have some hot chocolate or a hot mexican coffee, and enjoy the display!
The beauty of the lake, along with the money the casinos spend on this event, makes for a memorable event.
