One of the things about being an opera fiend is that it gets me to visit places that otherwise I wouldn't have thought of visiting. That was happened in 2007, when I came to Bregenz for the opera festival and fell in love with the city. I'm not into the sort of holiday where you lie on the beach all day and get a tan, I like to see and do things. And this lovely city, where I could stroll by the lake, go for a cruise, get a cable car up to the mountain, get a view over three countries, browse in fascinating museums, get lost in the ancient Old Town, refresh my soul in the beautiful churches, travel cheaply and easily to neighbouring towns and countries, and hear great music in spectacular settings, proved to be everything I could ask for - if only the weather wasn't so unpredictable!

Great that you saw Tosca and Death in Venice in Bregenz last summer! That baritone wasn't Claudio Otelli, by any chance? (Which of the three tenors did you hear?) I have also eaten fresh Bodensee whitefish at that same restaurant; it was fine!
