General Tips: The Royal Guards...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: This is a photo of the Royal Guards marching down to Buckingham Palace (taken in 2000)...we just happened to come across them as we were leaving the palace, we had no idea that they were on their way or perhaps we would have waited to see them there.

We also saw the Royal Guards on our trip in 2005 while we were watching nthe Changing of the Guards.

    Sightseeing: Big Ben!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: "There's Big Ben kids..." :) I think of that Chevy Chase movie every time I see this photo... ;) It was strange seeing it with our own eyes after seeing it on TV so many times...

Big Ben is located at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament. It is 320 foot tall. The bell strikes every hour.

    General Tips: Trafalgar Square

  • Favorite Thing: Here are some of the pigeons at Trafalgar Square...

Trafalgar Square is the most famous square in London. In the centre of the square is the 170 foot high Nelson's Column surrounded by statues and fountains.

We didn't spend much time here, we just visited for a minute then headed off to our next favourite Monopoly location... ;)

    Sightseeing: Buckingham Palace
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: We visited Buckingham Palace in 2000 but couldn't see much because there were too many people there...but we went back in 2005 and had a front row position... We watched the changing of the guards while we were there too.

  • Favorite Thing: We visited Piccadilly Circus one day during our first visit to London also...it was exactly like we had seen in many photos... Huge amounts of neon signs all over the place and bus streets. It was great to see it...although we didn't stay long...

    Sightseeing: Harrods
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Favorite Thing: We had to visit Harrods at least once while we were in London...we'd heard about it on movies and in TV shows so we couldn't miss it. I'm glad we went too...the whole shop was covered by Christmas decorations (it was early November when we were there in 2000) and they were selling some amazing Christmas decorations in the shop too...great for my collection! :)

  • Us at Covent Gardens
  • by CandS
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Favorite Thing: We visited Covent Gardens in 2000 on a Sunday and it was totally bare with noone in sight...we visited Covent Gardens on a Saturday in 2005 and it was a really busy place...so different to how I remembered it last time. Covent Gardens is full of small cafes, shops and markets...as well as some entertainers trying to make a buck. It's a nice place to spend some time...

    Parks and Gardens: Hyde Park
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • London Parks and Gardens
  • The Diana Memorial
  • by CandS
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Favorite Thing: Hyde Park is a huge park not far from Buckingham Palace... We walked through it to get from Buckingham Palace to (the very run down) Kensington Palace near by. We also stopped off at the Princess Diana memorial which looks unfinished still although I was told it was finished. There were heaps of people in the park having a picnic, kicking a ball around or just relaxing... Very nice!

    Arts and Entertainment: Albert Memorial
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Favorite Thing: The Albert Memorial monument was dedicated to Prince Albert (1819 - 1861). It is located in South Kensington just near Kensington Palace.

I always enjoy reading tips about London, even though where I live is not a million miles away. I think we should recommend to the authorities that "Barking Town" and "Wagga Wagga" be twinned - That would be really kool - Woof, Woof ! Ha-Ha !
