General Tips: "The Playground"
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: The Playground is an easy (green) run for the skiing beginners...this is where I spent almost all of my time in 2002. :) It is a very easy run with a steeper section at the top for learners who are getting a bit gamer. :)

It is also close to the Cloud 9 restaurant so you can stop for a lot of hot coffees or hot chocolates in between falling over... :)

    General Tips: Chairlifts
  • Tip Rating:
  • Falls Creek - The Gully Chairlift
  • The Gully Chairlift
  • by CandS
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Favorite Thing: There are two major chairlifts running from the village up to the snow trails... The Bilia Bullet (ex Halley's Comet) lift is a chairlift that runs directly up to Cloud Nine (includes a restaurant and the main area for beginners). The Gully chairlift runs to the Frying Pan Inn where you can then get on the Eagle chairlift to get close to the Playground run along with many other trails...

    General Tips: Me?!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Here's me trying to work out how to use these skiing things on my first day in 2002... ;)

I think everyone should try skiing at least once in their lifetime...it can be fun...even for the beginners...and who knows you might get addicted. I was lucky enough to learn fairly quickly and skipped the 'beginners' class to go straight to the 'intermediate' class (still fairly basic). The classes at Falls Creek are great though, they are very helpful! :)

    General Tips: Me?!?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Here's me again in 2002 at the top of the mountains looking pretty happy with myself... ;)

I managed to get off two chairlifts without falling over once...not bad for a first timer! ;)

    General Tips: Chairlift
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Brrr...here's us going up in the Gully chairlift in 2002 to the top of the mountain...

Be careful that you don't drop anything while on the chairlifts...I doubt you'll ever see it again if you do... We saw quite a few bits and pieces on the ground as we made our way to the top of the mountain.

  • Favorite Thing: The lift pass prices for the 2003 season were:

7-29 June and 15 September to 5 October
$49 per adult for 1/2 day pass ($25 child)
$65 per adult for full day pass ($37 child)

    30 June - 14 September
$59 per adult for 1/2 day pass ($31 child)
$78 per adult for full day pass ($41 child)

The prices get better for the more days you ski. For more information on the lift passes, visit the web site: www.fallscreek.com.au

    General Tips: Ski Hire
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: There are plenty of ski hire shops on the mountain to choose from. Be careful when choosing though because the shops have very different prices and different inclusions in their hire options.

We hired our gear from Winterhaven Ski Hire on the corner of Slalom Street and Falls Creek Road. They were quick and easy to deal with and even helped out when my gloves ripped by lending me some of their gloves for free!

You would be best to hire your gear on the mountain if you don't have it already to save carrying it to your lodge and in case of any problems on the slopes.

  • Favorite Thing: Panorama is a 'green' (beginners) run at Falls Creek. It's not as easy as The Playground but is the next step up... I finally managed to do this run on my last trip without falling over! YAY!!!

  • Favorite Thing: This is where we stayed while at Falls Creek... If you are good enough you can even take this track down to the chair lift...but even on foot it is a bit difficult so be careful!!
