Sydney Hotel Tips by CandS

I stayed at the Pensione Hotel in June 2006 with 6 girlfriends in two 4 bed rooms. The rooms were fairly small but big enough for all of our stuff (including a small baby and his 'stuff'). The rooms are very neat and fresh and the beds are very comfortable...oh and the shower is great too! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone else and I would stay there again without a second thought.

Unique Qualities: The location of the hotel is great...we were right on George Street very close to the theatres and restaurants and out the back door was Sussex Street where Chinatown is. The hotel also has a kitchen & lounge area for communial use. Another great thing was that the rooms were very quiet and very dark...it was easy to sleep in... ;)

The Mecure Hotel is a nice hotel and it's fairly close to the centre of Sydney...it's easy enough to get anywhere though since there is a railway station very near by. It is a clean hotel but the rooms can be a little noisy with the traffic down below since it's located on a "Y" shaped intersection. I would stay there again, although the cost doesn't make it easy since it's more expensive than I'd normally spend.

The McLaren Hotel is more like a B&B in a way...it's an old homestead that was done up to become a hotel. It's a nice place but nothing special... However, if you have business to do in North Sydney it is in a great location. The rooms are a good size and very tidy with all the usual facilities (shower, tv, fridge etc).

The Travelodge Hotel in Martin Place is a nice, central hotel with nice rooms and friendly staff. It's in a great location for shopping, sight seeing, restaurants/cafes, nightlife etc. And being a 'chain' hotel it has all the usual hotel facilities on offer.

Unique Qualities: The rooms are VERY quiet and dark...great if you need a good sleep!!! :)

We stayed in this hotel the night before we started our honeymoon overseas (we don't count this place as part of the honeymoon!). It is probably somewhere I won't ever stay again...the room was very squashy, it was VERY noisy all night long, the staff weren't really interested in having us there, there were STACKS of kids all over the place etc. Overall it wasn't really a very nice place to stay...I'd go elsewhere next time.
