Wagga has been named the "City of Good Sports"...there is a huge variety of sports facilities here and some are the best in the area/state/country...

A lot of top sports people in Australia grew up in Wagga...some very well known cricket, rugby, AFL footy players etc. We have a Sporting Hall of Fame near the Botanic Gardens for those keen on sports.

If you need some information on any particular sports facility in Wagga I recommend you telephone the Visitor Information Centre on 02 69269621...

The City to Lake Fun Run is the largest free fun run in Australia. It is usually held the second Sunday in September each year. In 2006 it will be held on Sunday, 10 September.

People can run, walk, skate, ride a bike, cartwheel or whatever you like... The race usually takes anywhere between about 30 minutes and 1.5 hours to finish the 9 km track (which goes from the Civic Centre to Apex Park at Lake Albert). Dogs are also welcome in the 'race' as long as they are friendly and restrained. ;)

At the end there is a BBQ and presentations...a great way to spend some time chatting and relaxing. Everyone who enters gets a certificate at the end and your time gets published in the local newspaper a few days later...

There are also a few other things on in Wagga on the same weekend so it is a great time to visit Wagga. The Jazz Festival, Farmers Markets and some other events are also on over that weekend... :)

Equipment: Make sure you have good walking/running shoes and comfortable clothes.

A 'best dressed' prize is also on offer for the person or people who dress up the most interesting... :)

Directions: The track runs along Baylis Street, Edward Street, Edmondson Street, Erin Street, Railway Street, Lake Albert Road, Eastlake Drive and Lake Street....it ends at Apex Park near Lake Albert.

    Sports Travel: Wagga's Bikeways
  • Tip Rating:
  • Theme: Biking

Wagga has some great bikeways around town... If you drop into the Visitor Information Centre you can pick up a brochure with all of the details and a map.

The bikeways are either off road or on road and there are also some BMX facilities (jumps etc) for those interested.

    Sports Travel: Skate Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Theme: Extreme Sports

The Wagga Skate Park was opened in 2001... It is a cement park especially made for skate boarders, BMX bikes, roller blades etc. It is very well used by many kids in Wagga.

The Skate Park is free to use but must be shared with all using it...

Equipment: Make sure you take your own safety gear and whatever it is you want to 'ride'...

Sports Travel: Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre
  • Tip Rating:
  • Theme: Other

The Oasis Centre opened in Wagga in July 2003 and has already become a very popular place. It has world class facilities including lap pools, childrens pools, a wave pool, spa etc.

The opening hours are Monday to Friday 6:30 am to 9:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. It is also open for private hire.

Entry prices are $4.40 per adult (or $1.50 for non swimming adults), $3.00 per child/student/pensionor/consession or $13.20 for a family (two adults and three children).

Equipment: Bring your swimmers, a towel and not much else. There are lockers available. You can not take food (except for special diets) onto the premises but there is a kiosk to buy food/drinks...

If you visit Wagga in summer then swimming in the river is a nice way to spend some time... Or if you are not the swimming type then get some sort of floating device and float from one point to another... It's a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon... :)

Borambola is a school camp organisation which also caters for team building, fun days, parties etc.

They have a lot of things to do: flying fox, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, basketball, mini golf, tennis, swimming pool, BMX track, archery, low ropes, high ropes etc.

We had a day out there in April 2005 for our work social club and we had a great time!!!

Equipment: Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and good shoes for climbing/playing. Also take sunscreen, a hat, water bottle and sunnies...

My girlfriend Shelley and I live in a place called "Barking Town" - I think it would make a fantastic sister city for Wagga Wagga. Haha! - Kind Regards M & S.
