Chainaya Lozhka: Cheap and quick fare with a Russian emphasis

  • Restaurant Name: Chainaya Lozhka

Chainaya Lozhka (in Russian mean teaspoon)

A sort of Russian cafeteria, this chain serves cheap, quick fare with a Russian emphasis.

The beet-and-carrot salad, creamy ham-and-potato salad, marinated mushrooms, and cabbage soup are hardly haute cuisine, but they can satisfy midday hunger at unbeatable prices.
Nothing is written in English, but the food is displayed at the counter, so you can just point to what you want. Despite its name, the teas are mediocre bag teas and the coffee is either watery or grainy. The place can get crowded, but turnover is quick. This is a safe, convenient choice if you're wandering Nevsky any time of day.

There is no coffee, just tea and blinis – the famous Russian pancakes.
The staff in this orange-tinged pancake chain cook up blinis quicker than you can devour them and all are reasonable priced.

    Open: Daily 7am-11pm

  • Restaurant Name: Bistroo

I remember another bistroo, where we eating the delicious food.

I was taken the potato-steak with mushrooms. It was made very good. For dessert was the whipped cream with fresh strawberrys ...
I like this bistroo, because besides the good food there was grandiose dining hall on the first floor with decoration of the walls.
The order was taken on the ground floor.

It is hard to explain for me, where it is exactly.
It was at the Nevsky Prospekt , on the other side of Kazan Cathedral, there was a little street cross with Nevsky Prospekt and there it was the Bistro. What was the accurate name, I don't remember today :(

I like your toilet tip, haha! I lived in Peter for about 8 months to study some Russian in 2004/2005.

Fabulous start here. I especially like the night shots of the open bridges. Unfortunately I missed this event during my time in St. Petersburg.
