Getting here

We left Washington DC and flew to Chicago. My husband was traveling on buiness and I was just tagging along. As a home school mom, I seldom get to spend this much time away from my two children but I was excited to go. I think the more you know about other cultures the easier it is to understand why others act the way they do. It helps you understand that the world really is out there and it doesn't speak English...you need to adapt. Anyhow, we got delayed out of Chicago for 5 hours. It wasn't pretty. As my husband travel far more frequantly than I, he has little patience for it. We were also supposed to meet his co-worker for a ride from Narita Airport to Yokosuka. Without the ride, the trip is about two hours by train. The thoughts of keeping track of our bags and staying awake on the train getting there made the wait all the more depressing. However, we were surpriesed when we boarded our flight to find it almost empty. Because there were so few people on the flight we had 5 seats to ourselves and were able to sleep pretty well on the flight. There's always a postive side. Luckily when we arrived, our ride had waited for us! We drove the 1 1/2 hour drive and got a beer at the Ta Da bar in Yokoska. Considering it was two in the morning, I was pretty impressed to find a place to get a beer and relax.

Doing to sight seeing thing

On our first full day in Yokosuka we were able to visit the base and enjoy the Cherry Blossom Friendship Day being celebrated there. Unfortunately, there had been violent crime commited recently by a US citizen and the event was much smaller than originally planned. Still it was enjoyable to see the cherry blossoms and get some meat on a stick (kabobs). We left the base and continued to the electronics market held in
