I can't recall being so hounded at US destinations nor anything else abroad. The Parisian kids selling their little Eiffel Towers are taking salesmanship to a new level. Even at Le Trocadero to watch the lights twinkle on the hour last summer, I was scared when these kids kept coming up to me (as they do everyone else.) All I can say is offering them a firm wave of the hand. Also, don't bring a big purse with you; keep the one you have swung over your shoulder. Don't be a scardy cat -- most real Parisians are wonderful -- but these kids are definitely keen to where they can make a buck.

Merry Christmas! Glad you found some normal things to do in Paris so you could become one of them. My suggestion for your next visit: ride around on a bicycle, Velib or otherwise. That's the most normal thing to do, and you won't get hassled. |
