My travels

by anton64 - last update: Jul 8, 2008

Why I travel

Kalahari, one of my favourite SA destinations
Two reasons - firstly my work requires a lot of traveling. I do most of my business travel in West Africa. I have stopped counting but have been to Nigeria more than 20 times over the past 7 years. Great people, you will search far to find friendlier than Nigerians.
Secondly we love exploring new places and try to have an overseas family holiday every second year. In between we see as much of South Africa as possible, usually camping holidays - the Kalahari dessert being my favourite but really anywhere close to nature. Favourite country - BRAZIL!
Iguasso falls from the Brazil side

Brazil

The greatest holiday destination ever! If I ever win the lotto this is where I'm moving to.
2.5 kg Rainbow trout, me on the right

New Zealand

Probably the most scenic country I have ever visited, caught my first (and only) trout there during my first visit back in 2000.

Favourite other African country

If I had to choose a place to stay on the African continent other than SA it would be Senegal, Goree island specifically. I have been there a few times and it is absolutely beautiful. No cars allowed - fantastic! shouts the man who spent two hours in trafic this morning driivng to the office.
Outside of Chevalier de Boufflers

Of to Senegal again this weekend.

I have a hectic two weeks ahead of me, Senegal next week followed by Nigeria the week after. Will be visiting Goree on Wednesday, as I have said elsewhere, one of my favourite places. If you ever go there stay at the small hotel next to the harbour, Chevalier de Boufflers, at ca Euro 30/night. Great value.
Rhino - close to my house

Rietvlei Dam Reserve

Can you believe this was taken about 30 minutes away from the centre of Pretoria? Rietvlei dam reserve.

Mushin market Lagos

Said I'd put in my own photo, here it is - Mushin market in Lagos. It was very hot and humid as always but people as friendly as ever.
Flowers in Kiev, Ukraine
