Here is what I look for and how the Renaissance measured up:

Central Location: No complaints - my room overlooked the Saigon River (great to watch hustle and bustle of mopeds disembarking from ferry onto the main drag!) and everything is close by. Ben Thanh Market is a $1 cab ride or 15 minute walk.

Comfortable Bed: Unreal - the other reviews were right - unbeleivably comfortable. Room is fine, not extravagant and a bit of a funky smell - but plenty of room, bathroom worked perfectly - overall no complaints.

Good Service - A+ here. There could not possibly be more smiles. Very nice people who were always there to help.

Unique Qualities: Pool area is very nice - great view at night.
Premier Lounge on floor 18 (for MArriott gold members and others) was fine - 2 free internet stations and good desserts! Food was decent, not great, but cold drinks a-plenty and a good breakfast.
