Fliss and I live in New Plymouth, on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. Pop approx 66,000. We moved up here at the end of 2001 after living in the capital, Wellington for 4 years. Mainly for lifestyle reasons. Its big enough to support most of the businesses found in the bigger cities, but there any the transportation hassles that go with the bigger size. Plus the outdoor recreational facilities are awesome.
We got a belated taste of the travel bug a couple of years ago when we had a couple of months in South America. Loved the place and the people and would go back at the drop of a hat.
There are a lot of plusses with NZ being stuck away in the south pacific but the big downside is that it takes forever to get anywhere!!
Never mind, we're off on another adventure at the end of September. 4 months in Morocco, Spain, Istanbul, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Zanzibar, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Sth Africa. So all you travellers and local experts are more than welcome to help us out with things to see and do and where to stay :)
And let us know if you're heading our way.
