"Schloss Bruchsal" Bruchsal by ArchbenUK

Bruchsal Travel Guide: 71 reviews and 180 photos

Through an arch over the road and you are there.

The lesson of this building is,'if you are a bit short of cash don't worry'. You see a highly coloured building and it takes a little while to realise that the instead of the usual mouldings, arches, cornices in stone they are all painted on, plus shadows! In long years of looking at buildings this is the only one like this that we have seen.
This photo is only a small sample of the whole Schloss.

Schloss park

Once through the Arch, first right and first right again and you are in a car park from which you walk into the grounds at the rear of the Schloss. It is small compared with such as the Wurzburg Residence, but it glows in and out. The Prince Bishop that started the building was short of cash but knew how to make ends meet.
Just wait until you see the superb interior. Obviously you can still have the best even if you have little cash.

Bruchsal

The Bishop borrowed an architect from the Bishop next door, who in contrast was very rich, who lent him a man from his staff, Balthasar Neumann, The greatest European Architect of the !8th. century. How lucky can a man get? Amongst other works Neumann designed the front buildings on the main road. One of these now houses a nice restaurant.
