A Special Place for a Special Trip

The Hawaiian Islands are so far away from the UK that to plan a trip there is quite a challenge, even with all the facilities of the internet. We decided to rent a private house for our time on the Big Island and leave the Hotels to Ouahu and Kauai.

Armed with this we searched a good site where owners let out their own properties.

We narrow the many options down and eventually settled on Hale O Pueo in the north of the Island. (See Tip)

Through a slight miscalculation we arrived in the dark and set off down a dirt road with some trepidation. We eventually found our house where the lights had thoughtfully been left on for us. All that was on our mind was a quick snack and some sleep, preferably in that order!

The next morning imagine our delight waking up to see from our bed the Pacific Ocean spread out before us. We could hardly drag ourselves from our lanai where we watched the whales leap from the Ocean.

We hardly ate at a restaurant while we were there preferring just meat and salad, plus of course some wine, eaten from our very own piece of heaven.

The Big Island, for us an Ideal Choice

When faced with travelling almost halfway round the world to a destination an the unlikely prospect of a return trip it was worth doing the research to decide which islands to visit.

For a two + week trip we decide on three islands, Oahu is where you usually arrive and was worth seeing as an introduction to Hawaii. But we really felt we were where we wanted to be when we reached the Big Island. Not nearly as touristy as some of the others but still very beautiful and the added bonus of volcanic activity!
