Essentially located on top of the hill that divides Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley is an unincorporated community of Los Angeles County owned by a major motion picture company known as Universal City. It’s like American Samoa but not nearly as cool… ok, not at all like American Samoa. Anyway, this community has been home to Universal Studios for over eighty years and continues to hold tourists’ attentions as the second most visited attraction in California. The studio tours, theme park rides, stunt attractions, restaurants, shops, clubs, movie theatre with stadium seating, all operating over 360 days a year, has Universal City boasting it’s “The Entertainment Capital of LA” which I guess makes sense considering no one really lives there. The inhabitants of the city are laborers, tourists, television and film personnel, musicians, industry executives, and visitors from other parts of state that come there exclusively to create entertainment and/or be entertained and then leave. It seems to be working pretty well. Landlocked but with just enough room to be home of a Los Angeles County Sheriff station and an iconic Los Angeles County Fire station, top that with unaccountability for Los Angeles business taxes and regulations, Universal City is a great example of taking care of what’s important to the area… entertainment.
