The algarve in general is a brilliant place to visit but Alvor is definatley my favourite. It may be small but it has such a fantastic concentration of quality food places, more infact than many of the larger towns, so that you will be spoilt for choice even if you go for 2 weeks - the freshest fish, delicious almond cake and the local planalto wine is refreshing. The people are freindly without being 'in your face' touting for business so it has a nice relaxing feel, there are though enough lively places to keep you occupied if thats your kind of thing. there's not loads to do in the day except chill out and admire the view or go walking but it is near enough to the bigger towns of portimao and lagos with excellent (cheap) transport links. From portimao you can actually get a train to most places along the coastline for very reasonable prices including Faro. Staying in Alvor you get the best of both worlds- a small, unspoilt place for a relaxing holiday but close to other attractions should you want to visit them. With a husband who's a chef and being a big foodie myself this is my favourite place!
