Livingstone is the Zambian tourism centre for Victoria Falls. The town was established in 1905 and was the capital of Northern Rhodesia in 1911. The town is named after the missionary explorer, Dr. David Livingstone, and became a colonial city with facilities far beyond the rest of the country. The capital was moved to Lusaka in 1935 and the bustling city of Livingstone has become a quiet town. The population in Livingstone is 100,000 people. The distance from Victoria Falls to the town is 10 km.
