Enlightened water fountain, Muscat
An enlightened water fountain is located halfway between Mutrah and Old Muscat. The area is like a picnic area. This is a romantic place in the nights and you can see young Omani couples sitting together.
Directions: Halfway between Mutrah and Old Muscat.
Old Muscat gate, Muscat
Old Muscat gate was closed every night until the 1970s. The part of the city was restricted during nights. Today it's one of many sights in this old part of the city.
Directions: Old Muscat
The new palace in Oman
The Sultan has moved from Al Alam Palace to another majestic palace, 400 metres away and slightly more hidden than the former place. It was not allowed to walk towards it. (See the white building in the middle of the picture). The sultan has only one wife, according to the taxi driver.
Mirani Fort, Muscat
Jalali Fort and Mirani Fort are flanking the Al Alam palace, and was built on the ruins of an Omani fortification when Oman was under Portuguese control. Mirani fort is also called the western fort.
A city gate to Old Muscat
The old city walls was used to surround the old town. Three gates were closed to protect the city from intruders. At one of these gates you’ll find the Muscat Gate House Museum.

Al Alam Palace, Muscat
One of the main attraction in old Muscat is the Al Alam Palace, the former home of the Sultan. He has now chanced home to another majestic palace, slightly more hidden than Al Alam Palace.
You can not get into the palace, but nevertheless you can take photos in front of the building. The palace is flanked by two forts overlooking the harbour.

23° 36' 52.7900" N 58° 35' 39.7900" E
Old Muscat
Old Muscat is located at the southern end of Muscat. It is the administration area and houses majestic buildings and old forts. It is the cleanest place I have seen. (The cleaning personnel works 24 hrs a day). Old Muscat is a quiet and atmospheric area, but it's nothing to do here in the nights.
The old city walls were used to surround the old town. Three gates were closed to protect the city from intruders. At one of these gates you’ll find the Muscat Gate House Museum. Other museums here are the Omani French Museum (Bait Fransa) and the Bait Al Zubair Museum.
Address: Bab Al Mataib street
Directions: GPS coordinate:
23° 36' 52.7100" N 58° 35' 39.6700" E
Muscat Gate Museum, Mutrah
Muscat Gate Museum is in a modern version of a city gate, built across the Al Mina road towards the town of Mutrah.
Address: Al Mina road
The History Museum, Muscat
The History Museum was closed when I was there. This part of the city has diplomatic recidences and buildings with high fences. It's also very hard to get a taxi from this place.
Directions: GPS coordinate
23° 35' 59.3600" N 58° 25' 22.8500" E
