I never thought that I would go to China. For some reason it was just not on the top of my list. There are a ton of other places that I would like to see I thought to myself. For some reason Asia just seemed too inaccessible to me.
This past year I had the chance to go to Beijing for work and being one for adventure I didn't think twice about going. I thought to myself, this is my chance to see one of those places that I probably would get to if at all.
My trip started in Sydney, Australia and then I eased my way into Asia through Singapore (another one of those places that wasn't on the top of my list till I went there). From Singapore I made my way to Beijing.
I was lucky enough to have a native Chinese speaker as my side kick. It would have been a completely different trip without him. Form the confusion at the airport, to the cab ride to the hotel to my first meal, I couldn't have done it without him. Well maybe I could of but he sure did make it that much more enjoyable and accessible.
Now that I've been to Beijing Asia is not as inaccessible as it once was to me. I hope to some day go back for work or for vacation. Beijing is a complex city with lots to do and see. It's full of culture, history, interesting people and food and it has great potential ahead of it. I'm glad that I got a chance to see it. |

Confucius Thu May 29, 2003 10:20 UTC Update to your taxi card: #1 Panjiayuan Antiques Market is great but it's only open on weekends. #2 Liulichang sells more cultural goods instead of antiques. Still a nice place. * "Summer Place" is Summer Palace. The Russian Market was demolished in 2002. | jessicadf Thu Mar 27, 2003 05:58 UTC Note to self: No littering of melon elements in Tian An Men Square... | herzog63 Tue Mar 4, 2003 05:45 UTC Gosh your restaurant tips make me hungry!
