Live Music: Cafe Du Nord
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Cafe Du Nord

A great downstairs club. On Saturday nights their house band Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers rocks the house with some good old big band/swing style music. There's a full bar and a pool table in addition to the dance floor. I think there's a cover starting around 8 or 9 (call ahead) or you can avoid it by showing up early for dinner or drinks.

Eating / Drinking: Blue Light Cafe
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Blue Light Cafe

For a great hole in the wall place to see some blues/rock/whatever check out the Blue Light. It's a very small place with stiff drinks, friendly people and great music. I have always come out of here with a buzz and a smile on my face. Look for the blue light.

    Noc Noc Club: Noc Noc
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Noc Noc

A small bar on Lower Haight (between Fillmore and Divisadero) that has a unique style about it. When I say small I mean small. The total occupancy in this place is probably about 30 or so people. The walls and some seats are crafted out of chicken wire and stucco which make a sort of cave effect. Some walls are covered by sheet metal. additional furniture is crafted from wood and can be sometimes less than comfortable. none the less, any discomfort that you may experience will soon be dulled by one of the many beers that they have on tap. Weekend crowds pack the place solid and there's usually a DJ in a small booth near the bathrooms playing something unpredictable.

Sachi: A Place To Practice Your Karoke
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Nightlife Spot: Sachi

Sachi is a little bar located inside the Japan Town mall on the second floor. The total occupancy of this bar is probably no more than 30 people and I don't think I've seen more than 10 people in here. This is a great place to go with a handful of friends if you want to drink some Japanese beer (they have other drinks too) and practice your karaoke moves. I'm not much of a karaoke singer so this is the perfect place for me since I don't have to embarrass myself in front of too many others. I've been here a few times and have always had an interesting time.
