SF Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA): SF MOMA
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MoMA). This is the place in San Francisco to see modern art. Set aside a few hours to wander through the halls and floors of this beautiful museum to see all of the different exhibits. They feature permanent exhibits as well as rotating shows. Check the website for the current show.

Twin Peaks: Great View Of The City
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • One of my favorite views of San Francisco is from Twin Peaks. High atop this mountain you will see everything from the GG Bridge to The Bay bridge and beyond. You'll see The Castro, The Haight, Market Street and Downtown as well as the Financial District and all of the surrounding areas. You canprobably see about 80% of the city from here. The view at night is amazing too as you'll see the whole city all lit up. Be sure to dress warm as it is often times windy and cold but it will be well worth it.

See the link below for a virtual view.

    Alcatraz: Island Prison
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • I have been to Alcatraz several times growing up but never as an adult. Since my girlfriend has never been there we've decided to make a trip to this infamous island prison in the San Francisco Bay in a few weeks. After our trip I will have more tips and details to share.

The island (and prison) can be seen from many different vantage points throughout the city and can be reached by boat from Pier 41. This is a popular destination especially in the summer months so it is suggested that you reserve your tickets ahead of time on the web or by phone (see link below for details).

Being in the middle of the SF bay the weather on Alcatraz can go from clear to cold and foggy without warning. When making a trip to Alcatraz (or SF for that matter) it couldn't hurt to bring along a jacket.

    Transamerica Pyramid: Transamerica Pyramid
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • One of the defining buildings of the SF skyline is the world famous Transamerica Pyramid. The 853 foot pyramid was completed by the architects William Pereira & Associates in 1972 and at the time was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Today it is the 4th tallest west of the Mississippi but still remains the tallest in SF and Northern California.

Directions: The Pyramid can be found in the heart of San Francisco's financial district and occupies an entire city block.

Things To Do: Whirlwind Tour of SF
  • Tip Rating:
  • Do you have only a day or just a few hours and want to see SF. Are you wondering what to do and how to see the most in the short amount of time that you have? Here is a suggested itinerary to pack the most into a short period of time. This assumes that you have a car but can be done on a bike too. I guess that it could be done on foot but it would take several more hours.

With the car you might want to take the GG bridge in which will put you on Lombard. From there head down to Fisherman's Wharf and down the Embarcadero to Pac Bell Park. From here head back to Market and take a quick spin through the Castro. Head past the Castro up the hill to Twin Peaks for the most amazing view of the city. From there head down the hill till you hit 19th and take that till you hit GG Park. Take a drive through the park and head to the Haight. Down Haight Street and weave a few streets over to Van Ness. Take that to Broadway and make a left. This will put you in the heart of North Beach and China Town. North Beach is a great place for dinner and night life.

Parking is not impossible but may be difficult in some areas. You can pay for parking in some places but this can get expensive. Bring your good luck charms in hopes that the parking gods will smile upon you.

That's just a quick trip off the top of my head. It can be done in a few hours or you can take your time and make stops along the way. I've left out lots of details so let me know if you need specifics on anything.
