 | Maquifucuna Reviews | Tips 1 - 4 of 4 | | Mieke, the Dutch lady of the Aya Huma Hostel did give me the nickname of Prince Filip (Prince of Belgium). So some travel companions also used this name in order to describe my bedroom in the Maquipucuna Lodge. They said I was sleeping in the Prince Filip Suite. That was kind of funny. But what a great luxury. I had a big choice of where to sleep. I even had my own toilet and my own shower with hot water. In front of my room there was a small terrace with a hang mat. And, Oh yes, I did sleep in the big bed. I did feel like a Prince for two days.

I made this trip with a group of 20 persons. And the systems is that single travellers, have to share the bedrooms (no single rooms), of course girls with girls, boys with boys. But due to the composition of the group, after dividing up the rooms, I was the one who remained, so I had a single room for the entire trip (except one night in Urbina and on the boat of the Galapagos). What a luxury. Especially in the Maquipucuna lodge, where everyone was sleeping in shared rooms of 4 persons, in double bunks, and with shared facilities. Here I had my own room, with two double bunks, and a big matrimonial bed, you may guess what bed I did choose . . . ? Or just look at the next tip.
A great place to sleep with sweet jungle dreams. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterPhone: 02-507 200Directions: Fundacion Maquipucuna, Baquerizo 238 y Tamayo, La Floresta, QuitoOther Contact: root@maqui.ecx.ec

Waw, this is such a unique place to stay. There are several rooms with double bunks, and one big room with a big bed. The toilets and the showers with hot water are not private, so it is shared accommodation. There is a beautiful terrace at the second floor with a splendid view and a great place to relax in one of the hang mats.
It is great to stay in the middle of the Cloud forest, you go sleeping with sounds of nature and you get up with these sounds. An unique experience. 3 of us stayed for 2 nights (could easily have had 3 nights) Our transport from Quito included a stop at an orchid garden, the volcano farm, the equator monument and anything else we wanted along the way. The lodge itself is very accommodating with guiding or not, as much or a little information about the forest, flora and fauna as we wanted. Very flexible! The food was the best of our entire stay in Ecuador and very beautifully presented again with flexibility on timing! The rooms, were clean and safe. The water hot and plentiful, the emphasis is on conservation but totally up to each individual! The sound of the river is constant, but not so near/loud that you can't hear the frogs at night (I love the frog serenade!) I think most of the lodges have a suite of humming bird feeders, this one is no exception with at least 6 in the dining area. It's a great source of entertainment!
Outdoor public rooms (dining, lounging, cool looking walkways, bridges and stairs around the lodge) why be inside? Trails for hiking on own or with a guide. Great food! Coffee (their own forest grown organic!) cocoa, tea all day. Great managers! Birds, bugs and animals! (no biting bugs, but wonderful bugs like leaf cutter ants which look like a line of tiny boats with green sails inching across a trail)
